Paul Margocsy

Paul is a self taught artist who developed a love for painting at an early age. Born in Melbourne and attending primary and secondary school at Brighton, Paul began his career as a window dresser with Myer Melbourne. He moved overseas to Europe and worked in London painting children’s wall murals and fashion murals for hairdressing salons. In 1973 Paul returned to Melbourne and opened children’s décor shop painting children’s bedroom walls. Paul then worked at Red Tulip, in the display centre, staying there for eleven years. Paul’s passion for painting was developing which led to him to many trips out studying the birds and wildlife in their natural habitat and studying from books. Paul joined the Wildlife Society in 1985, the year later winning best painting in their show. To date he has won many major awards and his works are in private and corporate collections throughout Australia and overseas. He has had numerous publications in books and magazines, Australia Post has selected him for a stamp issue and has held successful exhibitions in Australia, Japan, Singapore, London and America. Paul’s painting was chosen to tour America for one year with eighty of the worlds best wildlife artists. Paul works in watercolour and opaque gouache.
